Home Office
This is a project we worked on in Chestnut Hill. We used plain sliced maple plywood and finished with a dye stain/water based top coat mix. The doors and drawer fronts received a 1/8 inch black inlay with 1/2 inch squares. Lots of storage cubbies, lighting and even "secret" doors. This was a very fun project we were very happy to be a part of.
Built-In's
This is a project we worked on in South Philadelphia. Fluted face frames, arched top rails, raised panel doors and crown molding. We tied the units into the existing baseboard and chair rail. The units were primed and received one coat of paint at the shop and a final coat was applied after installation.
Built-In with Windowseat
This is a project we worked on in Collegeville. The window seat consists of two storage bins. The lids flip up and the hardware used features soft close action so the little ones don't hurt their fingers. The window seat is flanked by lower cabinets and open adjustable shelving above. The cabinet doors use soft close hardware as well. The two bookcases are connected at the top and crown molding was installed to finish it off at the ceiling.
Bamboo Shelves & Cabinets
This is a project we worked on in Northern Liberties recently that we were really excited about. It consisted of floating shelves, paneling, columns, bookshelves, cabinets and 24 inch deep cabinets for hanging clothes. All made out of bamboo plywood. Everyone involved with this project were thrilled with how it turned out and we are looking forward to using bamboo again in the near future.
Small Built In
We made and installed this unit to fit perfectly in a nook next to a fireplace in an Art Museum area home. The space was perfect for a built in and we designed the proportions so that the audio/video components would fit at the bottom of the unit which we made deeper than the bookshelves above. We even made a spot for their "Roomba" vacuum at the bottom! A fun project and the homeowners loved it.
Recycled Bookcases
This project was done for Sue Thompson of Interiors by Decorating Den. The client had several standard bookcases in their living room they wanted to incorporate into a built-in unit. We construted a platform to raise the bookcases up to the ceiling, fastened the bookcases together and installed a face frame to make the bookcases look like a single unit. Installed crown molding to finish off the top of the unit and made a small desk area in the corner. A great cost effective way to utilize something the client already owned in a completely different way.
Cathedral Crown Molding
Crown molding is sometimes challenging to install even though I've gotten pretty good at it over the years. Crown molding on a vaulted ceiling complicates matters quite a bit. This job was for Sue Thomson of Interiors by Decorating Den. We installed the crown, base, casing and made the valance boxes and Sue designed the room.
Stair Treads
Pete contacted me after he pulled the carpet off of his stairs hoping to find some nice treads and risers he could sand and refinish. What he found was the stairs were in disrepair and there was a lot more work than he anticipated. We "tuned up" the steps to make for a solid foundation and then installed new replacement treads and risers on top of the old. Materials used were 1/4" oak ply for the risers, 3/4" oak with applied 1 1/4" bullnose for the treads and cove molding.
Built-In
This Oak Built-In consisted of four sections - two bookcase/display cabinet sections with wood doors below and glass doors above, a 20" deep section for a 50" TV with storage above and below and a window seat with storage. Crown molding was installed on the unit and we pre-finished all the parts before installation.
Small Remodel
Amanda and Phil wanted to change some things in the back room of their first floor. The roof consisted of a skylight system - which was leaking - and the amount of sunlight that came through kept the room very warm in the summer. They also wanted to add a door since there was no current rear egress. We ripped of the roof, installed new framing, roofing, two new velux skylights and sheetrock. We also removed a window, cut a new opening in the wall and installed a sliding door. All photo's are copyright Amanda K. Miller , the homeowner and a photographer who was kind enough to document the project.
Custom Doors
This project was for a friend and local remodeling contractor. His customer needed new bifold doors for their nursery - the only problem was they needed to be 8 feet high - which are not redily available. I built these doors from pine lumber using loose tenon joinery. The homeowner will be painting or staining these himself.
Kitchen Table
This table was made for Kevin & Patti. They wanted a "rustic" table for their newly remodeled kitchen. Kevin supplied the exact measurements he wanted the table to be and provided some pictures of how he wanted the table to look. We decieded to use some salvaged "wormy" oak I had come across for material.
